EC Announces Poll Dates for 5 States, including Telangana; No By Election dates for TN because of cyclone warning.
Chief Election Commissioner OP Rawat has announced the Assembly poll schedule for five States – Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh and Telangana
The Model Code of Conduct in these states comes into effect immediately.
The Ceiling on Election expenditure in all assemblies is Rs 28 Lakhs, except for Mizoram where it is Rs 20 Lakhs.
Chhattisgarh to vote in 2 phases
Polling Dates – November 12th and 20th
Madhya Pradesh and Mizoram, Single Phase poll in both States
Polling date : November 28th
Rajasthan and Telangana – Polls will be held simultaneously. Single phase poll.
Polling Date : December 7th
Counting in all five states – Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh and Telangana to be held on December 11th.
CEC OP Rawat said ‘By Elections for two assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu – Tiruvarur and Tiruparankundran, will not be announced today because of the cyclone warning in Tamil Nadu’
The Centre charges a fixed amount as tax on oil. What the Centre gets as tax revenue, 42% of it is passed on to the States. The States independently charge their VAT. The average VAT rate in the country is about 29%. The States benefit from higher oil prices:
