Rahul Gandhi on Sardar Patel
Sardar Patel was a patriot, who fought for a independent, united & secular India. A man with a steely will, tempered by compassion, he was a Congressman to the core, who had no tolerance for bigotry or communalism. On his birth anniversary, I salute this great son of India:

Ease of doing Business ranking: India has improved from 142 to 77 in the last 4 years
India’s ranking in Ease of Doing Business has improved from
142 in 2014 to
100 in 2017 to
77 in 2018
says Ramesh Abhishek Secretary DIPP Govt Of India.
This year the most dramatic jump has been in ‘issue of construction permits’.
From 181 last year, we have improved to 52. This phenomenal achievement is the result of hard work over last 3 years+ by officers/staff of the 2 municipal corporations and MOHUA.
India has shown highest improvement (53 ranks) in 2 years by any large country since 2011.
It is the first BRICS and South Asian nation to be recognized as top improver in consecutive years.
Delighted at yet another rise in India’s ‘Ease of Doing Business’ rank. We are unwavering in our commitment towards economic reforms, which will ensure an environment that fosters industry, investment and opportunities, tweeted PM Modi.
Credit where credit is due. This is a significant achievement of the government. Whether businesses & investors are taking advantage of the improvement in procedures is a discussion for another day, tweeted National Conference leader Omar Abdullah.

Govt issues a statement on the row with RBI
The autonomy for the Central Bank, within the framework of the RBI Act, is an essential and accepted governance requirement.
Governments in India have nurtured and respected this.
Both the Government and the Central Bank, in their functioning, have to be guided by public interest and the requirements of the Indian economy.
For the purpose, extensive consultations on several issues take place between the Government and the RBI from time to time.
This is equally true of all other regulators.
Government of India has never made public the subject matter of those consultations. Only the final decisions taken are communicated.
The Government, through these consultations, places its assessment on issues and suggests possible solutions.
The Government will continue to do so.
The buzz is that govt has recently written to the RBI: P Chidambaram
Former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram tweet in response to the Govt’s statement on the RBI issue:
Refer Government’s statement on the ‘consultations’ with RBI. If it contained the truth alone, why was it necessary to issue the statement?
Obviously, the government has concealed something. The buzz is that government has recently written one or more letters to the RBI

P.Chidambaram on RBI developments
If, as reported, Government has invoked Section 7 of the RBI Act and issued unprecedented ‘directions’ to the RBI, I am afraid there will be more bad news today
We did not invoke Section 7 in 1991 or 1997 or 2008 or 2013. What is the need to invoke the provision now? It shows that government is hiding facts about the economy and is desperate :
