  • He believed that a great way to serve God is to serve people, especially the poor and downtrodden.
  • At the Belur Math this morning, I paid tributes to Sri Ramakrishna.

I announce the renaming of the Kolkata Port Trust to Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookerjee Port: PM Modi

PM Modi spoke at the Sesquicetenary Celebration of Kolkata Port Trust in Kolkata today. Excerpts via @BJP4India:

  • This port has seen India earn its independence. It has seen India’s journey from Satyagraha to Swacchagraha.
  • This port isn’t just a port for traders, it has also seen a lot of legends pass through it.
  • I announce the renaming of the Kolkata Port Trust to Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookerjee Port.
  • He is a living legend who was a leader for development and fought on the forefront for the idea of One Nation, One Constitution.
  • Dr. Mookerjee had set the stone for industrialization in India. Chittaranjan Locomotive Factory, Hindustan Aircraft Factory, Damodar Valley Corporation and several others saw active participation from him.
  • Today, I also pay my respects to Baba Saheb Ambedkar.
  • Our Govt believes that India’s ports are the entry gates to India’s prosperity.
  • For this, the Govt has started the Sagarmala initiative to reduce the cost of connectivity.
  • The time taken for cargo clearance and transport has seen a reduction due to better management on the ports.
  • The turn-around time in the last five years has dropped down to half. This is one of reasons in India’s jump of 79 places on the Ease of Doing Business ranking table.
  • Our Govt is building infrastructure for aquariums, water parks, sea-museums, cruise and water sports in all cities of India that have ports.
  • The Central Govt is also promoting cruise-oriented tourism.
  • We’re working towards increasing the number of cruises from 150 to 1000. This growth will also help West Bengal.

‘In Bihar CAA_NRC will not be applicable’

Prashant Kishor, @PrashantKishor – JD U leader:
  • I join my voice with all to thank Congress leadership for their formal and unequivocal rejection of CAA_NRC.

The Polit Bureau of CPIM reiterates its call for the withdrawal of the CAA

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) met at New Delhi from January 11-12, 2020.

  • The Polit Bureau hailed the countrywide protests against the Citizenship  Amendment Act (CAA) and the growing movement to protect the Constitution and secularism.
  • The CAA undermines the secular concept of citizenship enshrined in the  Constitution by introducing a religious criteria.
  • The mass movement against the CAA-NPR-NRC consists of students, youth and ordinary citizens who are able to clearly see the threat posed to the Constitution and its democratic-secular values.  For the past one month, protests had taken place every day in all parts of the country.
  • The Polit Bureau strongly condemns the brutal repression unleashed on the peaceful protests and the police atrocities inside the Jamia Millia and Aligarh Muslim University campuses.  The government must withdraw all the false cases foisted on people and release all those arrested and in jail.
  • The CAA and the NRC are to be seen in tandem.  As per the Citizenship (Registration of Citizens and Issue of National Identity Cards) Rules 2003, a National Population Register (NPR) is to be compiled which will be the basis for the NRC.  The government had notified that the NPR process will take place from April 1 to September 30, 2020.  The NPR-NRC process will affect millions of poor people and those belonging to marginalized communities and target the minority community.
  • The Polit Bureau reiterates its call for the withdrawal of the CAA. It demands that the Modi government not proceed with the NPR as notified.
  • The Polit Bureau appeals to all the Chief Ministers who have announced that they will not accept the NRC to put on hold the NPR process in their states.  It is by doing so that they can stop the implementation of the NRC.
