Country’s longest tunnel with an electrified railway line: M Venkaiah Naidu

  • Delighted to have visited the country’s longest electrified tunnel between Cherlopalli and Rapuru railway stations and travel on the newly commissioned Obulavaripalli-Krishnapatnam Railway line in Andhra Pradesh today.
  • My long-cherished childhood dream came to fruition today.
  • It is one of happiest days of my life.
  • This structure is an engineering marvel and I complement the Railway Authorities for completing the longest electrified tunnel in a record time.
  • I am emotional because it passes through my native and ancestral villages where I had spent my childhood.
  • At that time nobody had even imagined that a train would be passing through these hillocks one day.
  • When I was Minister this line was envisaged, planned, surveyed and sanctioned.
  • It is finally completed when I am the Vice President now.
  • In view of the importance of Krishnapatnam Port-Obulavaripalle line for the development of the region, I mooted the idea when Shri Nitish Kumar was the Railways Minister in Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s cabinet.
  • This newly commissioned line of 112 km reduces the travel time to five hours as compared to the 10 hrs earlier for a goods train from Krishnapatnam Port to Obulavaripalli.

Alby John, Deputy Commissioner, South Region, Greater Chennai Corporation tweeted: 

  • We did an early morning clean up of the Porur Lake as part of our Chennai Plogging initiative.
  • 550 plus volunteers participated and we cleared around 4 tonnes of garbage, mostly plastics. 
  • Special thanks to Porur Residents who came in large numbers. Half the lake is cleaned for now. Cleaning to continue next Sunday also.
  • Including traffic police officers who dropped in for a few minutes.
  • All our volunteers were given a souvenir after the event – a jute bag full of compost made in our micro compost centres.
  • But the star of the day was this 76 year old volunteer who came dressed as Gandhi. Gandhi Kanagaraj as he is popularly known actively participated in the clean up and was interacting with the kids on Swachh Bharat

The 36th GST council decided to reduce GST rate on all Electric Vehicles from 12% to 5%

  • GST rate on all Electric Vehicles reduced from 12% to 5% and of charger or charging stations for EVs from 18% to 5%

  • Hiring of electric buses by local authorities exempted from GST

  • Changes in GST rates shall be effective from 1st August, 2019

    The 36th GST Council Meeting was held here today Via Video Conference under the chairmanship of Union Finance & Corporate Affairs Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman. The meeting was also attended by Union Minister of State for Finance & Corporate Affairs Shri Anurag Thakur besides Revenue Secretary Shri Ajay Bhushan Pandey and other senior officials of the Ministry of Finance. The Council has recommended the following:

     GST rate related changes on supply of goods and services :

  • The GST rate on all electric vehicles be reduced from 12% to 5%.
  • The GST rate on charger or charging stations for Electric vehicles be reduced from 18% to 5%.
  • Hiring of electric buses (of carrying capacity of more than 12 passengers) by local authorities be exempted from GST.
  • These changes shall become effective from 1st August, 2019.Changes in GST law:
  • Last date for filing of intimation, in FORM GST CMP-02, for availing the option of payment of tax under notification No. 2/2019-Central Tax (Rate) dated 07.03.2019 (by exclusive supplier of services), to be extended from 31.07.2019 to 30.09.2019.
  • The last date for furnishing statement containing the details of the self-assessed tax in FORM GST CMP-08 for the quarter April, 2019 to June, 2019 (by taxpayers under composition scheme), to be extended from 31.07.2019 to 31.08.2019.

AP CM YS Jagan spells out details of the new system to be followed while calling Govt. Tenders

AP CM explained in the AP Assembly today the new system to be followed by the AP Govt. in the Tendering process for projects above Rs 100 cr, with a  view to introduce transparency into the process.

He said:

  • The High Court will be approached to appoint a sitting or retired judge to preside over the Govt Tendering process.
  • Details of any Govt Tender over Rs 100 cr will be displayed in Public Domain for a week for comments and opinions.
  • After that a Technical committee will assist the Judge to incorporate the suggestions received in the Tender.
  • The concerned Govt Dept’s view will also be taken into consideration.
  • The Judge will then set the Terms and Conditions for the Tenders.
  • This entire new pre tender process will be completed in 15 days.
  • Through this the AP Govt proposes to make the entire process transparent and opening it for a wide range of suggestions.
  • This is the first time a system like this is being followed in the country he said.

AP to have MLAs’ as honorary Chairmen of Market Committees

AP CM YS Jagan told the AP Assembly that:

  • MLAs’ will be made Honorary Chairmen of Market Committees’.
  • This way MLAs’ will participate in Market Committee meetings.
  • They will inform the Govt. if farmers are getting remunerative prices in their constituency.
  • The Govt. will check the information provided through its own sources and act on supporting the farmers with remunerative prices.
  • The 3000 cr fund proposed by the Govt to support farmers can be more effectively spent based on the ground level feedback from MLAs.
  • This will also help the Govt to respond quickly on remunerative prices.
  • It will involve MLAs’ in working for the welfare of farmers.

AP Speaker told the Assembly why he had to suspend TDP MLAs. He said:

  • The Assembly was to discuss the important Bill relating to Rights to Tenent Farmers.
  • In spite of my repeated requests to the TDP members to sit down and participate in the debate they did not listen to me.
  • It was a painful decision for me to suspend the TDP members.
  • How can the Assembly allow an important Bill to be stalled by interruptions?
  • In future too this Assembly will not tolerate interruptions during important discussions.
  • Appeal to the members not to try interrupting in the future, in fact I can’t even think of they stopping tha passage of an important bill.

Revision of Loan Limit in MSME Sector Recommended

A Committee constituted by Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has submitted its Report to the RBI wherein it has been recommended that the limit for collateral free lending should be increased to Rs.20 lakh for MSMEs and Self-Help Groups (SHGs). The Committee has also recommended revision of loan limit sanctioned under MUDRA to Rs.20 lakh from Rs.10 lakh.

This information was given by Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in written reply to a question in Lok Sabha today.
