TN BJP not to send panelists to Television Debates

  • Political debates in Television Channels were useful in communicating a party’s stand and views on various issues to the people.
  • In view of lack of neutrality and equal opportunity to panelists in television debates of late, it has been decided that no representative of the Bharatiya Janata Party will participate in these debates for now:

  • As leader of opposition I had asked for today’s session to be totally earmarked for discussion by all members of the house on the water situation.

  • Objecting to this we walked out from today’s session.
  • To a query on the Govt’s reply on the water situation, he said, as always they will read out from a prepared text but nothing will be implemented on the ground.

Govt will now go ahead with the process of disinvestment of Air India: Hardeep S Puri – Union Civil Aviation Minister

  • In a meeting on 28th June 2017, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs had in-principle approved the consideration for strategic disinvestment of Air India & its five subsidiaries. An Air India Specific Alternative Mechanism (AISAM) was constituted by CCEA for this.
  • In an AISAM Meeting held in March 2018, which is last year, it was decided that due to issues like volatile crude oil prices & adverse fluctuations in exchange rates, the atmosphere was not conducive for the disinvestment. But this was last year.
  • However, continued support from the govt had resulted in improvement of financial & operational performance of Air India.
  • As per the recommendations of AISAM, the govt will now go ahead with the process of disinvestment of the company.

DMK MLA TRB Rajaa shares, how his efforts of  Interlinking Ponds in a village called ‘Ullikkottai’ in Mannargudi paid rich dividends

mannargudi.png

DMK MLA TRB Rajaa shared the following on his Twitter handle @TRBRajaa :

I have been trying to pre-empt severe Water Scarcity in my constituency from day one and hence I’ve given heavy impetus to providing new OHTs / borewells / pipelines / RO plants etc. Since 2011. Providing water when available is ok but what do we do to ensure we have water.

We need to conserve what we get from our rivers & from whatever little rain that we get! We haven’t been able to store much of the water that comes our way & groundwater that we’ve exploited hasn’t been recharged ! So are New waterbodies the only option. Not necessarily.

Tamil Nadu is blessed with several thousand large waterbodies but sadly many haven’t been “maintained” properly and those which “survived” haven’t had good inflow of water from the “sources” !!! Several waterways have been encroached or levelled out ! So what do we do !!

Interlinking Rivers could be a hugely costly affair and even ecologically unadvisable. BUT WHY can’t we at least interlink our local water bodies ! That’s exactly what we did in one village called Ullikottai in Mannargudi as a pilot project and am happy to say it worked.

In 2018 we initiated a project to Interlink Ponds in a village called Ullikkottai in Mannargudi. Pipelines were laid underneath existing canals & linked to a local canal which fed water from Vadavaaru a tributary or Cauvery & the ponds were filled with the CauveryWater.

Later whatever little rain fell also helped. NOW even in this sever summer 2 of the 4 ponds we filled still have copious water and satellite images have proven that we have been able to store more water than previous years hence the pilot project has been successful.

NOW, I hope to replicate the same throughout my constituency and ensure that we are able to store a good amount of water when the next monsoon hits us or when the Cauvery Water flows our way

Here is a brief clip on what we’ve done in Ullikottai, Mannargudi …

Had a great meeting with Presidents of various political parties: PM Modi

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, today chaired a Meeting of Party Presidents of all political parties having representation in Parliament, here today. 21 Party Presidents attended the meeting.

Issues that came up for discussion included:

  • Ways to Improve productivity of Parliament
  • One Country, One Election
  • Building a New India in the 75th year of Independence
  • Programme and commitments to Celebrate Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary
  • Development of aspirational Districts

Union Minister for Defence, Shri Rajnath Singh conducted the meeting. The Party Presidents appreciated the initiative of the Prime Minister to convene this meeting and seek their views on these important matters.

Various Party Presidents noted with concern, the frequent adjournments and disruptions in the Houses of Parliament. They observed that this impacts productivity and denies Members the opportunity to express their views on issues of the day. They emphasized that an atmosphere of discussion and dialogue must prevail in Parliament. Participants in the meeting also expressed the hope that approximately half of the members of the 17th Lok Sabha, are first time MPs, who would take this opportunity to carry forward the spirit of constructive dialogue in the House.

On the issue of One Country, One Election, several Party Presidents supported the proposal for simultaneous conduct of elections. Several parties were also of the view that all aspects of this proposal need to be examined carefully. Shri Modi noted that this is not a single party’s agenda, but it is an issue of national importance and the views of all parties would be considered and given due importance. The Prime Minister announced that a committee will be formed to go examine the issue of ‘One Country, One Election’ threadbare, and come up with suggestions in a time-bound manner.

Several parties strongly expressed the view that the new generation must be made aware of the ideals and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi, and the 150thbirth anniversary of the Mahatma, is an apt occasion to do so. Parties were also of the view that we can take some firm resolves for the development of the country, on this occasion, and aim to accomplish these goals by 2022, the 75thanniversary of independence.

On the issue of development of aspirational districts, all parties had a constructive view and gave a number of suggestions. Shri Modi said that all State Governments must work in coordination with the Centre to bring the most backward districts in their States at par with the best performing districts. This way the goal of a ‘New India’ would be achieved by 2022, he added.

The Prime Minister thanked the Party Presidents for their participation and constructive suggestions. He said that the next few years represent a historic opportunity, to take the country forward on the path of progress and prosperity.

Other Cabinet Ministers who attended the meeting included, Union Minister for Home Affairs, Shri Amit Shah, Minister for Road Transport & Highways and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Shri Nitin Gadkari, Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Shri Thawar Chand Gehlot, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Coal and Mines, Shri Pralhad Joshi, among others.

Two-time BJP MP from Rajasthan, Om Birla, unanimously elected New Lok Sabha Speaker

PM Modi in Lok Sabha :

It is a matter of great pride for the House and we all congratulate Om Birla on being unanimously elected as the Speaker of the Lok Sabha. Many MPs know Birla Ji well. He has served in the state of Rajasthan as well.

Shri Om Birla ji has been in public life for years. He began as a student leader and has been serving society since then, without a break.

Personally, I remember working with Shri Om Birla ji the BJP organisation for a long time. Om Ji represents Kota, a place that is mini-India, a land associated with education and learning.

Om Birla ji ‘s life has been devoted to service. I cannot forget how he stayed in Kutch for months when that part of Gujarat was affected by a devastating quake. In the same way, he stayed in Kedarnath for months when there were floods.

One more good thing about Shri Om Birla ji is that he has worked to ensure people do not stay hungry in Kota.

Jan Seva has been the focal point of the politics of Shri Om Birla ji.  He is a compassionate leader who will preside over the sittings of the House.
